Is there any problem with linking to specific files from another site?

Do you need an index.html or does it do it's own directory listing?

What is acceptable content? (I am not by any means looking to host a porn site, but I have a humor section that has some nudity)?

You can manage your directory listing using .htaccess apache directives. Also you can make any file as start page.
