now that my servers are running speedy, i feel like i can start using pine again. pine is working fine to read e-mail, but i am having problems sending email. i cannot figure out what to put for the smtp-server field.
i have tried:
myserver.com
myserver.com/ssl
myserver.com:465
myserver.com:465/user=user@myserver.com
ipaddress

nothing seems to allow me to send e-mail. i get "mail not sent: in your email client"

help please? what should i use for the smtp-server field?

Try to set localhost there. It always works.

This is true. It's what I have set (I also use pine) and it works like a charm.

that is true, localhost does work for smtp-server. thanks for your help.

now, a follow up question. anyone know how to use pine smtp with ssl?

for my inbox, this works:
inbox-path: myserver.com/ssl/user=me@myserver.com/novalidate-cert}INBOX

smtp server usually looks something like this:
smtp-server: myserver.com/ssl/novalidate-cert

but, since we are using:
smtp-server: localhost
it won't allow you to add the /ssl/ and the /novalidate-cert to get rid of the self-signed certificate messages.

i think if the sysops here added
smtp-server: 127.0.0.1/ssl/novalidate-cert

to the /etc/pine.conf file that it would have everyone's pine use localhost and use ssl. any comments?

We'll try
Open a ticket and notify your server name
