Hey HOSTONY Forum-ers,

I have a little myth here, and I'm wondering if it's true:

Most of us people use Windows at home, maybe even at work. Once every week I let all of my Windows computer defragment the harddrives - That is, get rid of space in between pieces of DATA.

I heard that atleast once a year you must perform a defragment on Windows servers, whether it's a web-server or office/home-server.

Hello Mark, the ifle system NTFS is a fragmented one by its structure. That is why the defragmentation on NTFS drives will not give a prolonged effect. Except this, the process of defragmentation is closely connected with data loss danger and a HUGE load average level on the server.

So the answer is "no"?
