Is there any way to calculate the number of pages in a website? Not the number of hits or visitors or whatever, but just how many pages are actually in the website without clicking each one and counting by hand? See, my site is huge and as it's a personal site and I had a little bit of time on my hands this morning, I thought it might be fun to find out what the largest personal web site is on the internet and compare it to mine. The largest one I've found so far boasts 340 pages and claims it's the largest on the internet. I don't want to go through and count pages.... I mean, this is just for fun... Anyone know of a page counter somewhere?

Thanks... smile.gif

I think I figured it out.... I did an advanced Google search for all pages in bpgisme.com with htm or html in the url.... It's not perfect, but it's close enough. There's 1560 total htm/html pages in bpgisme.com. Cool. smile.gif

Isn't this fun? biggrin.gif

I tried to do the same search for jpgs but it wasn't right.... I know I have 1370 photos in just the photo gallery alone and Google reports only 880 or so jpgs for the whole site...

maybe there was not indexed ?
i have a robots.txt to block google-images bot smile.gif

Yeah... That's what I think it is too. smile.gif

That's okay though. I have all my images in a large directory here on my hard drive so I know how many of those there are. It's pages that I wasn't sure about. And I know that now it's a lot more difficult to count actual pages thanks to mysql and databases... But, I was really curious.

I remember long ago (about 1998) when I had one really long home page with all my favorite things listed on it all in a straight centered row... laugh.gif

right, but using google to count the webpages is good, because google see the pages generated with database as individual web pages (google don't know if it was generated on the fly or if it's a static file on disk.)

You must be right, because here's what "NetMechanic" said:

Now that sounds like too many pages! laugh.gif
