A new thing I wanted to do, was, allow TRUSTED users of my site, they are my most trusted friends, the ability to make a "yourname.domain.net" website in a sub-folder, that way, it cuts my time in half of work.
Look at adult.sonicdash.net and you will see what I mean.
This is what I want to do, and, its with trusted members and I also have an eye on them.
Example is "sprites.sonicdash.net" with its own website.

I've been thinking about this.. and thinking.
You can actually use mod_rewrite and have the mod_rewrite understand the subdomain of the url and redirect that (or rewrite it) to a subfolder.. A folder can be made with a little php snippet. Even if you don't want to create a folder you can just work further in mod_rewrite again and convert the url to a simple page.
All in all
http://apple.website.com/ v
v
Converts to Either
v
http://www.website.com/apple/ OR
http://www.website.com/index.php?page=appleYou can then retrieve their page from a database
But if you were thinking of just subdomains where they can make your site the first option would be better.. as then they can make it under the desired folder name

Your post just applied to me because I've been dealing with subdomains a lot lately.
Though initially complicated.. It would just be a php upload script combined with a file directory thingy. User account creation could become automated.
But then again, right now I'm just doing the good ole personal ftp passwords to certain directories as well.
