I can't get the directory list to show up and sometimes I have to use pasv.

is this expected?

Yeah, don't worry about it though, what's wrong with using pasv anyway?

There are times when the ftp will timeout on you, but take it easy man.. It'll be back up in a little while. Stretch your legs out and take a walk or something.

I think I missed slow computers for that reason. You could just.. do things while it's loading etc.

I need to download a 60 MB sql file, and it timesout when I try to download it. I haven't had this problem ever.

Have you tried moving your file to a directory where you can use an http request to download it? Would that work?
