I'm trying to backup my entire site (thousands of files) but while downloading after a short while it stops working. If I disconnect and re-connect it says that there are too many connections from this ip (8). I have to wait a while then retry and it's frustrating.

Dear Customer, we were also making backups on the server and may be this caused the thing that you couldn't connect at that time.
