I want to be able to run a java app that does a few things via crontab. Would it be allowed?

Its a small app no GUI, and just does a few checks for me.

Also do you allow mmmysql using JDBC to connect the app to MySQL DB?

If it is really small app there is not problem with it.

Also you can use jdbc to connect to mysql.
