I have to transfer a website from another host but want to leave it where it is whilst I upload to Hostonys server.

Instead of using ftp.newsite.com can I upload via the IP address? ie ftp.62.11.24.2/~newsite (I was able to do this with a previous host but can't seem to get it working here)
Dima
Dear Customer, you can't upload via the IP address( ftp.62.11.24.2/~newsite) because the anonymus FTP connectoin is closed on ous servers. You can connect to FTP only via FTP manager. You can dowload this programme.

Sorry, i think i don't understand the question, but i think you can ftp to the ip,

(don't put the /~user/, this is only for access the "document root" trought HTTP. just open some FTP-Client and complete the connection info with the follow:

host: 62.11.24.2
user: your main user.
passwd: your main account password

then if you get connected, put your files in the directory "/public_html/"
MoJo
Thanks mblendinger

That worked.

Next question, how do I view the site ?
MartinB
your welcome.

try http://62.11.24.2/~youraccount/
MoJo

Are you sure you know the right ip of your server?

You need find this information in your hostony's welcome email, they inform you the ip of the server where you are, and your account name and password (i think commonly your account name is the first 8 characters of your domain name)

So, if your site is "yourdomain.com", maybe your account name(username) is "yourdoma"

so if you go to http://theserverip/~yourdoma/" it must point to the web server's "document root" of your account.

Note: When you upload your site's files thought ftp, upload them to the directory /public_html/ (/home/yourdoma/public_html/)

If nothing work, wait for the support team or contact them trought FineDesk Tickets system, at support.hostony.com, they are very effective and cooperative people.

(dude, you're sure that you have a LINUX package, right? i'm giving you instructions for a Linux type account.)
MoJo
Yep Linux package and correct ip.

I used to be able to use http://ip address/~newsite with my old host, doesn't work here though sad.gif
