Full Version: Email is Blacklisted

jchrastina
I have opened a trouble ticket for this, but I am ALSO posting it here in case any other Hostony customers are seeing the same symptoms.

I don't know about other servers, but server26.fastbighost.com is on the blacklist maintained by spamcop.net

http://www.spamcop.net/bl.shtml

Test chrastina.com
Test stpaulsucc.net
Test server26.fastbighost.com
Test 67.15.111.2
Test 70.84.105.196

They all fail.

I have numerous clients trying to send emails and they are all getting REJECTIONS from some domains taht use spamcop.net.

Hostony - You need to get both IP addresses OFF spamcop.

Question - WHY are there TWO different IP addresses????
Is the web content at one address and the email at a different one??
Alec
We are aware of the difficulties and working to fix them.

Sorry for the inconveniences.

The 2 ip's are because of the servers moving recently so there are 2 IP's listed in history for that domain. Nothing to worry about.

Jason
jchrastina
Still blacklisted.
ser_pros
We've found some accounts which sent spam from our server and suspended them.
Our server should be unblacklisted soon.
jchrastina
Any progress?
Stanly
Reverse DNS record was set up for 70.84.105.196
Please have a look at http://dnsstuff.com/tools/ptr.ch?ip=70.84.105.196
Also I think you have a mistake at your post: the IP address is 70.84.105.196, not 78.84.105.196
corrob33
My clients have been blacklisted since last year. And instead of loose the clients I moved their mail to www.bluetie.com, it's cheap AND ALL THEIR EMAIL GETS THROUGH TO AOL and the others. I like hostony a lot, but the bottom line is clients were complaining, I was complaining, nothing happened so I had to find a solution.
jchrastina
You're correct. I supplied the wrong IP address earlier.

All of my email is now getting through. I don't see any blacklist issues ...yet.

I suspect the real root cause of the problems was related to the RevDNS entry.

Thanks for fixing this.

Now, back to work ....

Problem is finally solved smile.gif
jchrastina
Not so fast!

None of my clients can send email again.

Why am I getting strange IP results?

From http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/ip4r.ch?ip=s...astbighost.com:

WARNING: server26.fastbighost.com is a domain/host name, not an IP address. These results are for 216.52.184.242, not server26.fastbighost.com.

We're working on the problem and will let you know when it will be fixed.

Sorry about it.
Alec
The problem with ip address is fixed:

Sorry about the inconveniences.
jchrastina
67.15.111.2 is blacklisted again by spamcop.net.
Emails are being rejected at numerous sites.

http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/ip4r.ch?ip=67.15.111.2

When will this end?
When will you banish violators from Hostony???
SHUT THEM DOWN PERMANENTLY.

They are ruining YOUR business AND MINE.
jchrastina
Additional potential problems
(these factors do not directly result in spamcop listing)

DNS error: 67.15.111.2 is ######s-67-15-111-2.######servers.net but ######s-67-15-111-2.######servers.net has no DNS information

######servers.net also does not have SPF records.
Alec
I've set up the different PTR for the server, SPF is enabled as well:

http://dnsstuff.com/tools/lookup.ch?name=s...st.com&type=TXT
jchrastina
Server26 is still blacklisted and email from it is still being rejected.

Bottom line, THAT is the real problem.

Email can't get delivered from my domains.

The problem is not fixed.
ser_pros
Please have a look at this link:
http://dnsstuff.com/tools/ptr.ch?ip=67.15.111.2
As you can see 67.15.111.2 is server26.fastbighost.com, not ######s-67-15-111-2.######servers.net.
jchrastina
Not to belabor teh point, but look at my entry in this Forum topic on Feb 3 at 5:18 pm.

When I pinged server26.fastbighost.com, it did NOT resolve to 67.15.111.2
It resolved to 70.84.105.196. I don't know why, but I suspect the conflicting DNS results may have contributed to the email problems.

It now appears that there is consistency among my domain names, their IP addresses and the server name and IP addresses. Email is getting through and blacklisting is diminishing (SORBS-SPAM is still failing at dnsstuff.com.)
Alec
Those problem was not connected to email service. It was a DNS issue and is now fixed.

We'll be waiting for automatic removal of ip from SORBS.
jchrastina
Yes, but if DNS is providing wrong information, then RDNS will be wrong and mail will be rejected. Also, most spam blacklisters will base decisions on wrong information.

Anyway, all of my clients' mail seems to be going through okay now, even though server26 is still BL by SORBS:

Database of servers sending to spamtrap addresses

67.15.111.2 is server26.fastbighost.com and server26.fastbighost.com has DNS information.
Also server26.fastbighost.com has SPF entry.
We talked to SORBS and we got answer below:
"If your IP has been delisted (marked as 'Inactive') it will take
upto 2 hours to get from the database to all the SORBS servers.
It will then take upto 48 hours to be removed from DNS caches
around the world - none of these are in SORBS' control.

Please do not reply to this call with problems not related to
this ticket or your request will be ignored."

I have been blacklisted from aol email addresses now for about two weeks. Is this going to end or must I move to another ISP host?
Alexandre
Tell me please what is your domain name?

Do you use your local ISP as your SMTP (outgoing mail) server?

If yes you should change your ISP>
franz
My customers have been unable to receive any Mailman mailing list emails (or ANY email from server28 at all, for that matter) IF they are users of AOL.com. This has been true since my accounts on server16 were moved to server28 around January 31st 2005.

I am generally extremely pleased with the support and response I have received from Hostony, but this issue is now a month old and remains unresolved. I assume that some cooperation from AOL.com may be required to resolve this problem. Is this the case, and if so, is AOL.com being responsive?

Please, please, provide me (us?) with some updated news on this problem, the causes, the steps being taken to resolve this, and what is still needed before full mail service can resume.

Thank you.
Dima
Dear franz, we tried to get in touch with AOL for a couple of times . but the refuse to help us. They promised to remove our server from the blacklist, but didn't keep their word.

We are doing our best to resolve this problem ASAP and I am sure that we'll succeed

I'll try to contact them again right now.
franz
Thank you.

I understand that this issue requires the cooperation of a 3rd party (AOL), so I will do my best to remain patient while this is being worked on.

Please keep trying, because persistence is sometimes necessary to get results from large corporations!

Also, remember that this is not easy for me or my customers to deal with...they are being patient, too!

Dima
Thanks for your understanding smile.gif smile.gif
ser_pros
I've already add spf record for the server 67.15.111.2.
Dima
Dear Franz, I need your AOL screen name and the password for it. The matter is that I am not a member of AOl and don't have any account there. But I need someone's screen name and password to get an access to AOL's support. Could you please send it to me to redima@hostony.com ?

I would be very grateful to you!!!!!!

franz
I am not an AOL.com user, either. I will try to get a screen name/login for you from one of my customers as soon as possible.

If anyone else on this forum can beat me to it, you are welcome to do so!

-Franz
ser_pros
The server 67.15.111.2 has DNS information and spf entry has been added to it.
franz
Folks,

I have sent you an AOL screen name and password, via email to support@hostony.com. Please keep us posted with any progress you make with AOL on this problem!

Thanks,

Franz
Lehrer
franz, we have started our own case with AOL too regarding this problem. But it doesn't seem they are very eager to cooperate ... biggrin.gif blink.gif biggrin.gif blink.gif
Alexandre
We are working on the problem.
Thank you for patience.
franz
It looks as though AOL.com mail has been getting through, effective sometime yesterday. Good work! smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif

Now...could you please address the issue with mail to customers at ATT.net? sad.gif

Thanks, folks!

-Franz
Slavik
We continue working on the problem.

I just tried sending an email to a friend and received this message:

QUOTE
host gateway1.att.net [204.127.134.23]: 550-67.15.112.25 blocked by
blacklist.mail.ops.worldnet.att.net.
550 Blocked for abuse. Please contact the administrator of your ISP or sending
mail service.

In the past, like last month, I was able to send emails to that address without a problem. The email is on att.net.

I just wanted to add this hear as another list that emails are now blacklisted at.
MartinB
get a dedicated ip, and the problems will end smile.gif
