Hi, I recently wanted to kill of MSIE completely on my system.
But my good friend told me, as much as he himself would like to take a crowbar and smash MSIE a few bajillion times, that it would cause the XP system to not function right.
Is it safe to uninstall MSIE completely?
I just don't want to harm my sytem.

if you secure IE right and don't go to weird sites, you should be fine.
I've never ever had any problems with IE

Nah, I was stupid in the past and went to sites I shouldn't.
I just want...MSIE out of there.

you can't uninstall IE from your windows.
curiously, IE is a good percent of your OS.
You can use Netscape, Mozilla, Opera, etc instead of IE if you are unsatisfied with it.
try
FireFOX, of mozilla

OK, how does one secure IE right? I
have had problems with it and am close to throwing my computer to the bottom of the ocean.
And by weird sites do you mean that I'd have to stop going to the mountains and mountains of porn sites I go to--err, I mean electronic Bible sites?

Actually, to be quite honest, I went to a few porn sites long ago, years ago, and started getting ads like crazy.
I stopped using IE, even though I used tons of spyware removal programs, never did work, and ended up just about throwing my computer on the streets of new york (sarcastically because there is major traffic)
But yeah, IE is majorly security-less and has tons of holes.
I would rather get ANY shell extension than IE.
I would care less if its Netscape or even Mozilla, I just want to kill off IE.

you can try Knoppix (http://www.knoppix.net/), a Live CD Linux distribution, you only need to boot your pc with the knoppix cd-rom and it will be a linux desktop, you don't need to make partitions, formats, and a complete installation of the SO.
i think it's good for try.
