Full Version: /webmail and /cpanel redirects are broken

Up until a few days ago, I could get to webmail and cpanel by using http://www.tiffman.com/webmail and http://www.tiffman.com/cpanel. That has recently stopped working. I know I can get to it using the port numbers, but that's rather inconvenient for my users (and me) to have to remember. Both redirects currently take me to a "500 Internal Server Error" page. Can these redirects be fixed to point to the proper ports? If not, can the redirects be removed completely so I can make my own? I tried using .htaccess to create my own redirects, but apache is catching the urls before they get to .htaccess. For example, I created a redirect for http://www.tiffman.com/webmail2 which goes to the webmail port, but /webmail still returns the server error. Please either fix the current redirects to behave as they used to, or remove them. Thanks.

Right! This was brought up in another thread.
Something about a security hole.
They have been intentionally disabled.

Any idea what kind of a security hole? Would there be anything wrong with just removing the redirects instead of intentionally breaking them? This seems a bit of a misguided way to "fix" things. I'd be more than happy to just make my own redirects rather than having to contact my users and tell them they're broken (which is difficult to do when they can't receive emails I send them...).

As a side note, http://server21.fastbighost.com/webmail works just fine, so it apparently hasn't been broken for the entire site, just for some (all?) user domains.

Update: this was a very hot topic in the cpanel forums about three weeks ago with many folks being upset that cpanel broke it. According to this thread (registration required): http://forums.cpanel.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=25615 , the problem was fixed in stable release 56, which server21 is currenlty running. According to this thread: http://forums.cpanel.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=26321, apache has to be rebuilt using /scripts/easyapache after the fixed version is installed. If a hostony support guy could look into doing this, it would be very greatly appreciated.
