Full Version: database path?
Hostony Board > General Support > PHP/MySQL

I am trying to use Access2mySQL Pro. I need the following info for the database I created with phpMyAdmin through cpanel:

destination: (option to select "mysql database" or "mySQL PHP database". I didn't know there was a difference. Which type should I select ? I made the mySQL database through cpanel and phpMyAdmin)

server: (is this = mydomain.com ? )

port: (default is 3306 ?)

username: (i see that in cpanel)

password: (I see that I can create one in cpanel or maybe use my master password from hostony?)

tabletype: (after reading some on mysql.com, I created a myISAM database)

database: (i see that I can also get this name in cpanel)

This software Access2mySQL Pro, is supposed to convert my MS Access database and dump it to a MySQL database that I created on Hostony through phpMyAdmin. But I get the error, "Couldn't connect to Host or Database doesn't exist" I guess I need the correct destination, server, and port above because I beleive the mySQL database is ok.

- By the way, I can see that I can dump to a text file instead, then import through phpMyAdmin but I was having some problems with that. I think because my mySQL field names didn't match up right or something. Anyway, with Access2mySQL Pro, apparently, if I just dump straight to my database on the server, it can overwrite everything and hopefully give me a perfectly converted DB. (i hope... then from there I'll figure out Dreamweaver MX and PHP )

Is this prog trying to upload the conversion
directly to hostony?

If so you'll have to ask for access to mysql as
port 3306 is not open by default on hostony to
the outside world.

If you have a static ip then they can punch a hole
in the firewall allowing you access this way.

YOU will probably need this for dreamweaver too.

I do all my testing/creating on my home machine.
What i do though is create my db on my local machine,
and then upload through that phpthing or the command line.

Much easier and more secure.

in the phpthing just create a database w/ a user/password.
the dump from your converter is a table in the database.
donot create the columns in the phpthing
the sql dump should do this.

hopethishelps...

I have made a trouble ticket about the IP situation. Thank you.

I will be experimenting with this. What happens though when I get a Comcast connection (soon)? I don't beleive they have static IP's . ?

We'll be able to open mysql port to the range of IPs.
