Full Version: chown command

I wanted to set up a web mail program on my site, and I picked Squirrelmail. There are many places both in setting up the program and setting up any plugins that they ask you to change ownership of a file to be accessible to the webserver and no one else.

The problem is that the chown command seems to be not allowed, even through secure shell. Is there a way to make these files writable by the webserver or by some means other than the chown command, or by chmod 777?
