i know how to setup a subdomain, but where do i put the files for the subdomain?

When you are create subdomain, Cpanel create folder for you under public_html (if main domain) or under addon domain folder named same name as subdomain.
So, if you create films.domain.com subdomain, your folder will be "films" under main domain directory.
