Is it possible for me to host multiple sites as sub-directories from a non-reseller account.
That is, can I have www.site1.com point to Viper1969/site1/index.html and www.site2.com point to Viper1969/site2/index.html?
Or would I need a reseller account for that.

Yes you can have multiple sites hosted on standard shared accounts. Starting from Advamced account you can host multiple domains.
