Is it possible to setup subdomains dynamicly from a script (PHP preferably) or is this only possible going through cPanel?

What I would like to do is through an administrative page, be able to setup a user that would verify him in my database, set up a subdomain and configure that domain to read a file when called (using .htaccess).... I would like this to be available for any of my administrators, but don't want them haveing access to cPanel.

Do you run your site with dedicated or virtual dedicated server?
It may be available with these packages only

OK thanks, at the moment I've just got a shared plan, but if things keep going as they are offline for me then I will most likely be upgrading to a virtual dedicated server.
