I tried to use the cPanel Submit to Search Engines module.

It doesnt seem to be working well. This is what I found:

1. AlltheWeb recieved a 302 error then redirected me to http://www.alltheweb.com/help/webmaster/submit_site

That page says that you have to submit to yahoo through http://submit.search.yahoo.com/free/request or pay using OvertureŽ Pay-For-PerformanceTM

2. directhit produces a 404 error (The requested URL /util/submiturl.asp was not found on this server.)

3. Google shows a message in your module [an error occurred while processing this directive] but details show: Your URL has been successfully added to our list of URLs to crawl. I assume this one may have worked then.

4. Hotbot shows a 302 error, and redirects you to http://insite.lycos.com where u can either pay for submission or use their Pay for placement advertisements

5. lycos shows a 404 error.

6. mixcat shows an error page where you can get to their custom registraton services.

So... it appears that there are some major problems with this module. Anyone had any better luck using it ?

I am thoroughly familiar with search engine submittal.

I was just posting that info so that you know your cPanel system has a very non-functional module. You should consider fixing it or removing it to avoid an unpleasent user experience when people try it.

Additionally, virtually all the packages you advertise list a "Search Engine Promotion Tool" as one of the features provided. You should really not advertise this feature when it is not functional.

The reason that search engine submission scripts are often broken is because the search engine companies keep changing the process! It's a moving target, and some of them are hard or impossible to hit. Look at Altavista's submission form for example: http://addurl.altavista.com/sites/addurl/newurl Notice that it tries to ensure that there's a *person* making the submission by using graphics that a program can't (easily) read. Also some companies refuse free submission and so this cpanel option is inoperative.

I have no problem with that, and have already submitted manually.

The only"issue" I have is that the advertisements you list are misleading, specifically, all accounts include a "Search Engine Promotion Tool". You should really not advertise this feature when it is not functional.

no comment ?

I see that all the ads still list this as a selling point.

I would hate to think that someone may sign up for an account and then not get what was advertised

CPanel is a 3rd party software (cpanel.net property).
We've already contact them to know why is this tool not working.
As soon as they'll respond we will inform you.

Sorry for possible inconveniences.

sorry if I am not making my self clear. I am not asking for changes to cpanel (that would the best solution but it takes development resources which must be prioritized...)

What I was asking was if you were planning on correcting you advertisements which could be construed as misleading. I like the service and just dont want to see you blasted by others for false advertising
Stanly
It is not false advertising - we have CPanel features listed at our site and not only them. This is CPanel feature too so it is listed there.
Anyhow I followed your request to our advertising department.
