Hi I am thinking about hosting with you guys. A couple of questions:
How hard is it for you to setup SSH access ??
Are there any memory restrictions per user?
Can I write java stand-alone back-end processes??

you can request ssh access through email or web based perldesk
As for java java-scripts only are allowed on our servers. If you want to use JSP, JDK etc you can do it with dedicated packages only

What I want to do is have a java program that talks to a webservice and populates a mysql database and runs off of a crontab. I have tried this in php but it has memory problems.

a better questions would be: what language can I use for a server-side process? Or can i write a servlet that does the same thing and is kicked off by a cron job using lynx to start the process?

To run java applications you need to have a virtual dedicated server (you can purchase it at our site). Also if you have a virtual dedicated server you don't need to worry about memory usage. So I supposed to think that it is a best solution for you 'cause you don't allowed to use java at your shared hosting.
