The only way that works is when you are moving from one Cpanel host to another. Dreamhost does not use Cpanel.

A little snippy there Bonnie?

Anyways, what I guess you failed to read in my post is that they don't autoclose after initial submission, they must be replied to by support, which then will set the ticket to autoclose in X days w/o a reply. But if you sent in a ticket, and didnt get a reply, its not going to close on its own in 3 days.

I love how hostony's customer base on these forums is divided. There are the hordes of people that have issue, after issue, after issue, despise hostony, and feel ripped off etc, then you have the oh so few that are diehard, hostony can do no wrong customers. You may feel you are getting good service, but its just cause you havent had good service before to make an honest and reliable comparison.

If you ever want to compare services bonnie, I'll give you an open ended invitation, I'll host a domain for you, and you can compare, just let me know anytime.

The tickets only auto close after a support person has put in a "final response" and requested the ticket autoclose. It would be totally useless if the tickets autoclosed after submission wouldnt it?

QUOTE(dholden @ Oct 5 2005, 04:52 PM)
Is everyone aware that hostony sets a limitation on emails (including mailing list) that you can send?  I've been informed that the limit is 150 per hour per domain.  So if you have 150 active email users, they will only be able to send out one message per hour.  This limitation seems crazy.  I understand that it helps to limit SPAM, but it also can severely limit regular business use of email.  mad.gif
*

Not to belittle the problem but...

If you have 150 employee's actively using email within a given hour, you shouldnt be using an offsite email server anyways. You should contact an IT guy about setting you up an inhouse SMTP/POP server to handle that kind of load. That many employee's should be using local servers for email to limit the strain on your outbound connection to the internet as well. If you need help setting one up, let me know, I travel smile.gif

Did you try putting a .htaccess in the folder that you want to allow, and set it to allow everthing * ?

Just a thought, I dont have time to test it now, gotta go to work, but I'll give it a shot when I get home.

thanks for the info. does anyone know anything about WebDAV? it seems like a great technology for the web, but not necessarily that easy to administer.

I've used it quite extensively in the past. What do you want to know? I think its silly that its not an option on a shared hosting plan as it can be installed as mod_dav and controlled on a perdomain basis very easily.

To prevent spamming from dialup/dsl/cable users...

You can ask hostony to bind smtp to a higher port for you as well.

Hmmm.... if those people are also providing the same features i.e. same hardware and same software (cPanel same version) then have you tested their servers as not receiving the same amount of spam that we are receiving? My thought is that if all else is same then you should receive the same treatment worldwide. However, your honest thoughts will be valuable inputs in this regard and may shed some light.

No, the new host does not run Cpanel at all. The main issue is the version of SpamAssassin. I run spamassassin on a private server I own, and as a test I ran my inbox file from here through it, it worked like it was supposed to, tagging most everything as spam, this was with my old user_prefs file even before having to tweak it way down to try and fix what broke here. My user_prefs is currently set at 3.5 here down from 5.5 before. Before the upgrade of SA, I got about 2 spam's slip through a month or so, currently I get about 25-40 a day slipping through, tagged as "ham" ... There is a misconfiguration on hostony's servers with spamassassin. Cpanel is notorious for doing this when it upgrades things, its done it to SA in the past as well. (do a search in this subforum for spamassassin issues I've posted) I drilled down and found the issue the last time with SA for hostony, and they fixed it after a bit of time. This time I just moved my domains.

Over half a month since the inception of this thread and the problems and still no fixes.. anyways, this is pretty much the last straw for me. I've signed up for hosting elsewhere and by the end of the day my important sites will be moved entirely. I'll keep my hostony account for bandwidth till my contract runs out in the middle of September, anyone need some free bandwidth for image hosting? I have lots to spare!!!

I let this ride for a week or so to see if it would improve and it hasnt. I've lowered my scoring to 3.0 from 5.5 and I'm still getting 20+ slipping through. This is from getting 0 spam on a daily basis, and maybe, 1 per month. Something in the configuration has changed or is now disabled since the upgrade.

And so this is the answer I get back from Support...

CODE
Dear Customer,
Please go to  Spam Assassin Configuration

and fill up fields blacklist_from

I don't think the person understands HOW SpamAssassin works at all. We could add blacklists till the user_prefs is 100mb, but spam will still come in from "new" addresses.

Again I say, Something on the server changed, because I had not touched my user_prefs, and about a week ago I started to get a lot of spam slipping through, all with autolearn=ham. I guess I'll have to figure this one out and give support the answer like the other times spamassassin has broke.

Jesus, this is .... I'm going to bite my lip here.

Support, Please fix this problem.

SpamAssassin WAS updated on my server on the 9th, probably part of the automated cpanel upgrades...

I've yet to nail it down, but something has changed in the config or settings serverwide with spamassassin that is causing this. Mail is getting tagged as "autolearn=ham" which is whitelisted. I've removed my bayes and whitelists and still am getting messages tagged this way. Somewhere something is broken on the server.

Hostony, any response as to what might have been upgreaded/downgraded/changed?

Thanks
Jason

why not make it easy for yourself, go through and setup a Cpanel how you want it to be seen, save the html/image etc. then just link the submit buttons and all the buttons that process changes to a redirect to the main cpanel page? This would be far easier, and a lot less stress on the server. Cpanel takes up a lot of resources, and if you have 4-5 people "playing" in your cpanel demo its really going to impact the server more than it should. Also you always are open to security holes. I'd stick them up static myself.

Sure you can have a Ferrari for each one, but the only ones left are the ugly ones... brown, and the one painted like a cow. take your pick.

SpamAssassin is not tagging a lot of spam. They are scoring 0.0 and not activating any tests.

Has anyone else noticed more spam that usual getting through SpamAssassin, did the spammers recently figure out some ways to circumvent a lot of the tests?

Its not much of an issue, but I've gone from 0 spam to about 20 a day now, and I'd like to fine tune more, but nothing is getting triggered to fine tune against.

anyone?

Thanks

http://forum.hostony.com/index.php?showtopic=3985

If he is the problem, why would hostony KNOWINGLY sign up a customer that is being forced to move from his previous host because of DDOS attacks? smile.gif thats asking for trouble if its his.
